Pride. Much of the Church focuses on the fruits of pride. Few confront the root of pride. Why is that? Because like pigs in slop, we’ve come to revel in pride. Yes, our pride is the problem. And, like prior generations, we are about to reap a harvest of Biblical proportions.
That doesn’t sound good, does it? Yet I hear so many prophets prophesying positive prophecies. I have to wonder: Are they reading the same Bible as me? The Bible contains many prophecies, and many of those prophecies were of the coming evil caused by the sin, even for those who had little to no knowledge of God.
Although our covenant with God has changed, God’s standard hasn’t changed. And that standard abhors evil. And at the root of the evil in this world is pride. Satan revels in pride. He loves pride, all forms of pride, no matter what kind of pride it is, for he is the king of pride.
In Job 41, we are introduced to a creature that’s named Leviathan. The Bible describes that creature as “He is king over all the sons of pride." Job 41:34, New Heart English Bible. The Bible reveals Satan is not only the father of lies; he’s also the father of all pride.
In Isaiah 14:13, 14, we see the downfall of the father of pride. Hear how he starts:
“I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.”
Notice, Satan is Lucifer’s ungodly makeover attempt on himself. (I don’t know about you, but I don’t want him working on me). He became what he wanted to be — a creature of pure pride. He exchanged God’s truth for a lie. And he exchanged humility for pride. Imagine what that transformation looked like: from the most beautiful creature in creation to the most hideous creature in creation. Now all he has is to revel in his pride.
Unfortunately, I see that change taking place in our nation. America, the beautiful, is being transformed by the radical element of pride into something that’s hideous — YUCK! And rather than acceptance of the pride agenda, we should seek to escape its clutches before it’s too late. In fact, we may already be past the point of no return. Judgment lay at the door.
Judgment? Yes, judgment. There’s not one nation in history on planet earth that’s made it past this point of no return — the pride agenda. Not one. That shows how much grace and mercy we’ve already received — it’s abundant. Yet if God didn’t spare Israel, His own nation that was the apple of His eye, who was deeply involved in the pride agenda, what makes us think He will spare us?
Yes. That’s how dire our situation is: we’re hanging at the edge of the cliff over the abyss. We are carrying the smoke and fires of hell on our clothing. Pride stinks! It’s repugnant smell should illuminate our way towards the path of humility — just follow your nose. If it smells like dung, then it’s probably dung. Don’t eat it! Don’t buy it! Don’t let it stink up your home. Get rid of pride!
Now one would think Budweiser, Target, the Dodgers, and a host of other corporations would have learned their lesson. But it’s doubtful they have. Pride is very deceptive. In this case, financial losses may not be sufficient to bring them back from the brink. It may take something far worse.
And the pride in the White House is damnable. A nation built on pride cannot continue; it will eventually explode or implode. The White House, instead of being the beacon of freedom, has become host to the pride in our nation. And it appears that the only hope for our nation is to root it out.
