The Touch of Heaven

Jesus made this amazing statement: “[I]f I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.” Lk. 11:20. Right here, we see what happens when heaven invades earth, God, by his touch, drives out demonic activities. In other words, the devil’s action are silenced, hindered, and stopped. Satan is stopped when we, as God’s people, bring God’s touch into people’s lives. In fact, all of humanity is waiting for a touch from heaven. And we, as God’s people, can bring the touch of heaven to whomever, whenever, wherever we go. That’s God’s design for His Church: to bring the touch of heaven with us. That’s what I’d like to talk about in this post.

Satan yielded ground only after he wa contronted by Christ, the Anointed One

 When Jesus came to earth, it was heaven invading earth. He came “in the power of the Spirit.” Lk. 4:14. “[T]he power of the Lord was present to heal them.” Lk. 5:17. Jesus carried with Him the presence of Heaven. He “went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” Acts 10:38. “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power”. Id. He was anointed after His confrontation of the devil. Satan yielded ground only after he was confronted by Christ, the Anointed One.

Is it possible that we lack the touch of heaven because we have failed to confront the powers and principalities ruling over territories? Is it possible we haven’t overcome Satan’s work in an area and that’s the reason for our dismal success in bringing heaven to earth? Maybe the reason we don’t see the power of the Holy Spirit is He has been stifled by our own failure to confront what hinders Him from moving in our midst. See Zech. 6:8, 1 Thes. 5:19. God isn’t moving in our midst because we haven’t moved the invisible forces obstructing Him from helping us. In Daniel 10:13, we see “the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me [Gabriel] twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia.”

Can the move of heaven really be stopped by the work of Satan? It would appear the answer to that question would be yes. Some might ask, how can Satan resist God? It would appear that God often works through human and angelic agencies to accomplish His will and His work. God often won’t work by Himself to fulfill His own will. Rather, He employs others to do His will. While His reasons behind working that way may not be clear to us, it does appear that is how God often chooses to work. As such, our job is to learn to cooperate with heaven and to bring heaven on earth.

I am reminded of a dream I had many years ago. In that dream, God asked me a question: “Who do I see about territorial spirits?” Immediately, I said back to God, “see Peter Wagner”, which is actually a play on words because his full name is C. Peter Wagner. God will often use those kinds of play on words with me to communicate a point. My point in sharing this dream is to communicate the point the Lord was seeking to communicate with me: C. Peter Wagner had vital information on dealing with territorial spirits. And one of the conclusions of C. Peter Wagner was territorial spirits can and do hinder what God is seeking to do.

The Church, by and large, has adopted a “Que sera, sera” belief about how God works. In other words, whatever will be, will be. We think: If it’s important to God, He’ll do it. But is that what the Bible teaches? No! The Bible teaches a different reality about how God works, “carpe diem”, which means, seize the day! Yes, we must sieze the day to bring heaven on earth. All Heaven is waiting on us to seize the day to bring heaven while we are busy waiting on heaven to manifest itself in our midst.

I will Give you the Keys of the Kingdom of heaven...

 The scripture teaches, “From the days of John the Baptist until the present, the kingdom from heaven has been forcefully advancing, and violent people have been attacking it”. Matt. 11:12, ISV. What did John the Baptist do? He preached the kingdom of heaven. When he preached the kingdom of heaven, heaven began manifesting on earth. Jesus did the same thing. The kingdom of God began to forcefully advance through the preaching of God’s Word. Jesus said, “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matt. 16:19, ESV.

Today, we have the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Yes, we can bring heaven on earth. Yes, we are the anointed body of Christ; we carry God’s presence with us wherever we go. We can bring a touch of heaven by confronting the kingdoms of this world. Heaven is waiting on earth to exercise the authority we’ve been given.

Isn’t it time that we bring a touch of heaven with us to those around us? Instead of being frightened by the devil, start confronting him, exercising authority over him, and commanding the spirits to flee in Christ’s name. Jesus has already given us authority: “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Lk. 10:19. Yes, you’ve got the power to bring heaven on earth. Use it!
