Jesus said in Mat.t 6:22-23, "The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!"
Has the light within us become darkness? America was for much of our history considered the most positive, visionary nation. In a study done on the nations a few years ago, America was found to be the most cynical, negative nation. Somehow the light that was in our nation was turned to darkness. How?
I am thankful to know Christians from almost part of the Body of Christ. I cherish the uniqueness, the remarkable diversity of this greatest entity of human beings that was ever created. The light within the Body of Christ determined the light that was in the nations. But something has darkened that light, and so the nations, even the most positive, are now darkened. However, do not despair! The greatest Light of all is coming!
This greatest light ever articulated in human utterance is coming. It is the "gospel, the "good news," of the kingdom. The essence of this greatest light is the good news of who our King is, and He is coming. He is coming to His people first, and they will prepare the way for Him with the light.
I hardly know a Christian that has not become cynical about the body of Christ. There is much to be discouraged about with her present condition, but that is going to change. It is going to change when the "eyes of the body" begin to focus on the Light again, and to dispelling the darkness.
Some are soon going to see Him again in His people. We are given the promise of this in Isaiah 60:1-5, and the result is going to be the nations coming to the Light. There is a "deep darkness" covering the earth now, but this will soon make the light only that much brighter. In the great question that came to the Blues Brothers, "Do you see the light?" It's time to see the Light.
