Your Kingdom Assignment

Every believer has a kingdom assignment. That means, no one can do what only you can do in the exact way you can do it. Contrary to the popular narrative, we are not interchangeable. No! Each individual believer has irreplaceable assignment given to them and only them. Understanding that kingdom assignment is critical to your life’s calling and purpose. Discovering that calling can radically shift your perspective of yourself and others. And that’s why it’s so important to discover, discern, obey, and follow our own individual kingdom assignment.

Your kingdom assignment is your kingdom assignment. No one else can fulfill your kingdom assignment, for it was given to you by God Himself. Understanding your kingdom assignment gives each of us purpose. Adam’s kingdom assignment was the garden. Jesus’s kingdom assignment was the cross. The Apostle Peter’s kingdom assignment was the Day of Pentecost. The Apostle Paul’s kingdom assignment was the Gentiles. Each one had their own kingdom assignment. And you have your own individual kingdom assignment.

Now, understand, just because you have your own individual kingdom assignment, does not mean you aren’t called to be part of a team. In fact, scripture is replete with individuals who were part of teams. And because they were part of a team, their own individual assignment became greater. Nathan was a great prophet. But Nathan was assigned to serve King David. And in his service to God alongside King David, his prophecies remain to this day. Further, the prophecies he spoke shaped and influenced the entire world — “I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever. I will be his father, and he shall be my son.” 2 Samuel 7:12-14, KJV. Nathan, as a prophet, partnered with King David.

I’d like to ask you — Who are you partnering with? And why are you partnering with them? And if you’re not partnering with someone, why? The kingdom of God is built by and through anointed relationships. Over the years, I’ve learned, I’m not called to everyone. But that doesn’t mean I’m not called to someone. Yes, I’m called to someone. You are called to someone. Each of us is called to serve in Christ’s kingdom in a kingdom capacity with a kingdom assignment. And in fulfilling that kingdom assignment, you will find your calling and purpose.

Oftentimes, we put the cart before the horse. We think we need to find our calling and purpose first. Yet, the truth is, we need to find our kingdom assignment first. Why? Because in your kingdom assignment, you’ll build kingdom relationships. Those relationships allow your calling and purpose to unfold in the kingdom environment. And that’s where we’re safe. When we’re in the kingdom, we’re safe from the attacks of the enemy. If we’re just wandering through the world, then we’re just lost sheep, whether we’re by ourselves or together as a group. Our kingdom purpose and calling is hidden within our kingdom assignment. And our kingdom assignment is hidden within our kingdom connections.

Where are you connected to Christ’s kingdom? If you’re not connected to a local church, you’re disconnected from Christ’s kingdom — no matter how spiritual you may be. And yes, where you go matters. Not every church is a genuine kingdom connection. Some are decoys. They have all that a church should have except the Holy Spirit. Where God’s Spirit is, the kingdom is present. Jesus said, “if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.” Matthew 12:28, NKJV. The kingdom of God is in the Spirit of God. Further, the Spirit of God dwells in the Church. A local should be filled with the Holy Spirit. If it’s not, that absence tells us something — the kingdom of God isn’t there. And if that’s the case, we should leave to find a church that is filled with the Holy Spirit. We’re called to be connected to God’s kingdom so we can discover and fulfill our own individual kingdom assignment. 

Now, I can hear some say, “I am the Church. I don’t need to attend a local church.” Wow! You must be greater than Jesus, for Jesus attended a local synagogue. By the way, it was an imperfect synagogue. How do I know? A man with a demon was sitting in the synagogue. Nevertheless, the scripture teaches, “When he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures.” Luke 4:16, NLT. Still, some might say, “I’m a prophet. I’m free to roam as I please.” Notice, Jesus didn’t roam; He had His own synagogue that He attended from the time He was a boy. And He was still attending as a fully grown man — a man who’s God. 

If you’re looking for further evidence of being connected to the kingdom on a local church level, then I want to point out that, after the resurrection, the Apostles Peter and John regularly went to the Jewish temple to pray. “The time of prayer was about three o'clock in the afternoon, and Peter and John were going into the temple.” Acts 3:1, CEV. By the way, that temple, which they went to regularly to pray, no longer had the Holy Spirit in it. Rather, the Holy Spirit was in them. Still, they went there to pray. Why? They wanted to connect to the kingdom of God. Christ taught them how to connect to God’s kingdom. Yet, we fail to learn the lessons He taught them (and is teaching us).

While some of us may be called beyond the local church, most won’t. Some are called to nations, not all. Trying to move beyond your calling is foolish. Further, doing that outside of God’s normal process is even more foolish. Still, many are doing that because they’ve never been taught the scriptures, studied the scriptures, don’t read the scriptures, and, as a result, don’t know how to handle “the word of truth with precision.” 2 Timothy 2:15, ISV. Notice, not create our own doctrines. Rather, to know the truth of scripture with precision. Yes, scripture is finely tuned and extremely precise in what it communicates, even if we don’t understand it. 

Yes, we need better, more precise teaching of scripture. Knowing the scriptures enables us to understand Christ’s kingdom — how it operates, what our position is in it, and why God does what He does the way He does. God isn’t hiding things from us — those who believe in Christ — He’s calling us to seek Him for greater understanding of His Word, His Spirit, and His ways. Isn’t it time we seek Him, especially to discover our kingdom assignment, kingdom purpose, and kingdom calling. Yes, each of those is hidden within your connection to His kingdom in the local church…and beyond. May you discover your kingdom assignment today!
