Love Broke Through

God’s love is different than mankind’s love. Our love is conditional. We always set conditions for the love we offer others (knowingly or unknowingly). God doesn’t do that. He loves unconditionally. The Bible says, “God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8, Berean Standard Bible. As sinners, we chose to be God’s enemies. Nevertheless, God loved us so much that He crossed the line, bridged the gap, and broke through to reach us by His great love. In other words, love broke through. That’s what I’d like to talk about in this post.

That’s what real love does — it breaks through all the boundaries, fictitious or real, to reach those on the other side of those boundaries. Today, we must choose to believe once again in the love that breaks through the boundaries established by mankind. It’s possible to receive a love greater than we can give. It’s possible to know a love greater than knowledge. It’s possible to achieve a love beyond belief. Yes, it’s possible for love to break through into our lives. And we should be looking for and expecting that kind of love to break through into our lives. Why? Because love breaks through the obstacles to it. Love knows no bounds that cannot be broken through, including the bonds of our sin.

“We didn’t make God, but He made us, He isn’t required to follow our rules.”—Scott Wallis

No matter the sin committed, no matter the evil done, love can break through into our lives. And that message of love breaking through desperately needs to be heard. Why? Because so many try to place God into a box where He never was or ever will be. God is beyond and outside of the boxes we manufacture for Him; He isn’t bound to reside in the box we make for Him. Rather, God is greater; He’s the Creator of all things. He created us. We didn’t create Him. That’s the key difference between us and those who don’t know or believe in God — We understand that we are created by Him and He’s not a creation of ours. In other words, we didn’t make Him up; He made us.

Because we didn’t make God, but He made us, He isn’t required to follow our rules.  And isn’t that what we do — make rules. Oftentimes, we can even think God is required to follow our rules and do things our way. That’s what we often want — a god in our own image. That has been the case for thousands of years. People have made gods in their own image. That’s why the gods in this world that people will worship look like them, talk like them, and think like them — they made a god in their own image. Now lest you think that we, as civilized human beings, don’t make our own gods today, have you really stopped to look around and see what’s happening? Idolatry is at an all time high in our civilized culture. Why? Because mankind has always sought to make gods in its own image.

The Apostle Paul confronts the idolatry of his age (and ours), saying, “God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him.” Acts 17:30, NLT. Why now? Because God’s love broke through the barrier we made — the idols we worshipped of gods who were made in our image and who looked like us. There, in our poverty and destitution of spirit, God revealed His love for us. In the book of Zechariah, God shows an image of love breaking through. Joshua, the high priest, is wearing filthy rags for garments and the Angel of the Lord says, “‘Take off his filthy clothes.’ Then he said to Joshua, ‘See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put fine garments on you.’” Zechariah 3:4, NIV.

No matter what clothes you were wearing; No matter what sins you may have committed; No matter how filthy those garments were on you and your life — love broke through. It’s so important for us to hear that message today. Why? Because the voices of condemnation would seek to deprive us of the God who made us and give us a god made in our image and likeness. But God isn’t like us and He never will be. We are made in God’s image and He’s not made in our image. That’s the difference. The message we preach doesn’t make sense to the natural mind, for it proceeds from a different place than man’s mind. It’s a love from the heart and mind of God.

Yes, love broke through to reveal Himself to us when and while we were lost and broken in sin. Love broke through to reach us because we couldn’t reach Him. We couldn’t ascend to heaven. So Jesus did. We couldn’t pay for the evils we did. So Jesus did. We couldn’t forgive those who did evil to us. So Jesus did. Everything we couldn’t do, Jesus did for us. Jesus was and is the fullest and most complete revelation of God. When we see Him, we see God. That’s why it’s important to keep our eyes on Him. Without seeing and knowing Him, we cannot know God’s great love — the love that broke through the barriers created by mankind to Him, came via the womb of a woman, and revealed Himself as the Son of God — Christ Jesus, our Lord.

Yes, love broke through. Isn’t it time you received His love? He’s waiting for you. That’s why He had me write this message — to speak to you. You’ve been asking Him to show Himself to you. This is Him doing that through me. Now, receive His love. Let His love break through into your life. Isn’t it time for you to receive God’s love? You’ve waited a lifetime for this moment. Now, just receive God’s love. Let love break through into your life. It’s not hard. Just receive and say, Lord, I believe in your love for me. I accept your love for me. That’s it! That’s all you had to do for love to break through into your life.

Aren’t you glad you stopped to read this post? Yes, I know you are, for love broke through to reach you in this moment.

Let us pray!
